The other day I was thinking about the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. role play stories on here, and I happened upon an Idea that I'm thinking about doing.

The idea is a one man/ ensemble cast "Audio show". It would be along the same lines of the radio shows of old, such as "War of the Worlds", "The Shadow", and "The Lone Ranger". Except it would take place in The Zone.

So far Ive gotten the following Ideas.

It would probably be in English since I don't speak Russian, and it'd probably be the language of choice for most of the audience. We could possibly add other languages as background or as main characters with someone translating to the protaganist.

Now, here is my problem, I'm not a very good writer, I can come up with ideas, but cannot write stories or characters to save my life.


Protagonist:
"Ranger", Ex US Marine, somewhat current mercenary working in the zone.
Age: Mid 20s
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 220lbs
Build: Athletic to muscular
(This stuff helps build a character in the mind for the voice to act out, and also lets the listener imagine the character.)
He has become a de facto loner after his Merc. group was wiped out while trying to obtain an artifact for a man only known as "The Customer". Current whereabouts are Army Warehouses/ Dead City area tagging along with a group of loners to get back to the Cordon.

What I would need help with:
Writing (as I said, I'm not the best, I can do stories/ outlines but I REALLY suck at dialogue.)
Other voice actors/ characters (not very hard, you just need a character, microphone, and audacity)
Getting sound files from the game----\
Since this is going to be audio only sound is going to be a BIG part.
Background music.-------------------------/
Editors (were gonna need at least 2 in addition to me, getting sound files right is easy, but time consuming.)
No Idea what else I'd need, but I'm sure I'm missing something....

Would any of y'all be interested in helping with something like this?

I can possibly do the audio mastering/editing
If you wanted to do it in a podcast style method you can use a skype confrence. (They can be really good quality!), and rip the audio stream from there. Its how most podcasts where the authors are miles away are done.
Otherwise, im more than capable to do audio editing.

Well, from what little RP experience I have I think I could help you. Also, I could do some voice acting - I worked on a school radio for a while, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Count me as interested.

Did I mention I can fake a stereotypical Eastern European accent too :P ?

Also, for background audio- there's that freesounds project as well as a bunch of other free-audio services, like the newgrounds audio portal for example- if you're looking for ambient music and such.

This took me about an hour of editing, because audacity is a PITA with multi-tracking, and I had to find the files from my CS Complete install hah.

I was thinking that the full episodes would be around 10-20 minutes in length. And could be preceded or followed by a STALKER discussion or behind the scenes stuff. (We could possibly do a themed STALKER Radio podcast with this as a feature or something...)

I had planned to do this a few years ago as apart of a modding project to bring the community into the world of STALKER. I wanted to make a radio program that was updated for the community to download and use in-game. The original idea was for a portable radio in-game like the MP3 used in some mods, but then turned into changing the bar's music to this.

The major problem with the project is that I didn't feel my voice and the voice of a few others really fit the atmosphere of a rough Russian hellhole.

I don't know, I think if you could manage the quality the guy above managed, you'd be alright. As long as you get the background sounds of the Zone right, and have a decent script, I think it'd work out really well.

Yes, this is still alive. We're looking for a suitable theme song, something acoustic with a tinge of Ukrainian folk. Ranger has already found some good tunes for use in the actual podcast whereas I'm trying to trick my brain into spawning ideas.

Well, it seems a bit too obvious of a suggestion, but have you considered the bar music from SoC? The OST version doesn't seem to be quite so accoustic as I remember the in-game version being, though that could just be my memory, but it's certainly a good fit for any Stalker-podcast, though, granted, you'd have to take a selection from in it somewhere.

...except for the fact that the woman singing it couldn't hold a tone to save her own life? Yeah. We've also taken the Bar theme into consideration, though we're looking for something a bit more...Acoustic.

Still alive and well here, just got done writing the first chapter. (I procrastinate a lot with my writing, so I will write a paragraph and delete a page haha).

I still need more people, especially to help me with the sound effects, I don't have time to sit here digging through files (I cant even get the Game's sounds and am relying on Complete mod's sounds) while writing and recording voice, so if anyone would like to volunteer to do that it'd be greatly appreciated! :D

Awesome, I'll try to get the 1st chapter recorded (plus a possible rerecording of the prologue) soon. Ive also got a pretty good Idea for a "trailer" of sorts...

I am "zone master/game master" and making a stalker pen and paper/table rpg for my group.

For music tracks? stalkers own ambient soundtrack is good for most parts, and of course guitar tracks.

The Ukrainian military supposedly has the Zone contained in order to prevent the looting of dangerous, radioactive materials and to prevent the unauthorized entering of any individuals. They allegedly enforce this rule with a "Shoot-on-sight" declaration. In an ironic twist, because of major corruption within their ranks, they themselves are the reason why Stalkers can continue to operate, and why radioactive materials from the Zone keep flowing to the outside world. Overtly, the Military are hostile to all Stalkers to keep up appearances, but they also make shady dealings with them at the same time.
Bandits Image
Bandits
The Bandits are the raiders and marauders of the Zone, ranging from petty thugs and gangsters to organized crime syndicates. Apart from Freedom, which treats them with marginal contempt, everyone hates the Bandits due to their nefarious acts of robbing and exploiting honest Stalkers. Most Bandits are unorganized and leaderless; there are only a few known Bandit leaders and camps, and even then their groups are still fairly unorganized, with underlings always trying to take control by overthrowing the previous leader. Their unit size is mediocre, and their equipment is cheap and shoddy; because of this they've adapted to a guerilla style of warfare, ambushing small groups with large numbers by camping in locations just off the normal paths.

Duty was founded by former military expedition survivors and Stalkers concerned about the looming horrors of the Zone. They are one of the largest Stalker clans in the Zone. They have a strict military code (such as no smoking, maintaining ones weapons, etc...) and operate in a military fashion, using ranks like Sergeant, Major, Captain, etc. Their goal is to contain and destroy the Zone, fearing that it will spread to the outside world. They view the Zone as an ulcer on the world and their efforts are a way to excise it. They do this with blunt force by killing mutants, eliminating all who oppose them or exploit the free, and burning down or drowning mutant dens. They are neutral toward other Zone factions, save for the Bandits and their long-time nemesis: Freedom. It is also said that Duty has deep connections within the military, specifically Spetsnaz detachments within the Zone, although they treat regular grunts with utter contempt.

Freedom
Freedom is a collection of anarchists, daredevils, and other Stalkers who believe in the right for free access to the Zone. They are one of the largest Stalker clans in the Zone. Freedom believes that the Zone is a wonder given to all humanity, and feel that it should be further studied in order to fully reap its rich pool of untold information. They openly oppose the Military and their long-time rivals Duty, who hold the polar opposite of their ideals and beliefs. Freedom also studies the Zone, in their own fashion, but not as extensively as the Ecologists. They focus more on documenting the Zones anomalies, mutant behavior, and their movements.
Loners Image
Loners
Loners are a nomadic semi-unified group of Stalkers who simply live off the Zone in order to earn some coin for their daily lives. Loners are neutral toward almost all other factions, but do have complications with the Military, and openly oppose the Bandit faction for their actions against free Stalkers. Most Loners are only concerned with the riches of the Zone, and do not pay attention to the other factions hatred for each other - provided, of course, they do not threaten them. Because of this, Loners are often recruited by various factions as mercenaries.

Mercenaries
The Mercenaries are a private military force operating within the Zone. They are professional soldiers who will do just about anything in the Zone, ranging from retrieval, assassination, etc, though of course it must be for the right price. Mercenaries are usually neutral toward other factions, as they are a source of income, unless they interfere with their operations.
Ecologists Image
Ecologists
The Ecologists are Ukrainian scientists sent into the Zone on behalf of the government, but seem to be affiliated with outside organizations. Their main purpose is the study of all aspects of the Zone, using scientific methods to further explain what the Zone is, and its purpose. The Ecologists are neutral to all factions, and are not involved in any of their conflicts. Due to the military's slipping grip on the Zone, the Ecologists rely on opportunistic Dutyers, Loners, and Mercenaries to provide them protection, and to perform errands that may require combat, since the scientists are better thinkers than fighters.
Monolith Image
Monolith
The Monolith were originally ordinary Stalkers who believed in the power of the Wish Granter. Prior to Clear Sky, the faction reportedly made an exodus to the Zone's centre and disappeared. After the large emission during the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, they became active, venturing back from beyond the Barrier and attacking Stalkers. The Monolith are the front line soldiers of the C-Consciousness, and would rather die than let any Stalker reach the sacred crystal. Devoid of higher reasoning and emotion, they nevertheless carry out orders with fanatical zeal and dedication. The Monolith faction has no allies, and actively attacks all other factions.
Clear Sky Image
Clear Sky
Clear Sky is the most secretive faction within the Zone. The faction was disbanded after losing the majority of their manpower during the events in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. They are possibly affiliated with outside organizations, indicated by the extensiveness of their research and resources to carry out their operations. Their aims are similar to the Ecologists, but they are more than willing to take up arms against those who oppose them.
International Scientific Group Image
International Scientific Group
The International Scientific Group are a collaborative research organisation with members from across the world, who have come together to attempt to uncover the secrets of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Made up of scientists, private military contractors and opportunistic Stalkers, the Group aims to reveal the long-kept Soviet secrets buried beneath the Zone.
